Frequently asked questions
Can I edit a contract after sending it?
Understand when a sent agreement can return to editing and why recipient actions matter.
Last updated August 26, 2026
A sent contract is not an ordinary editable draft. Recipients must be able to review the same version that was sent, so you should not expect to change its terms freely while the signing flow is active.
If changes are needed
First review the contract's current status and available actions. A recipient can use Request changes and add a note. The contract then returns with a changes-requested status, allowing your organisation to review the request, update the agreement through the supported flow and send it again.
If your organisation discovers a problem before a recipient requests changes, do not try to alter the document invisibly. Use the actions available for that status and preserve the activity record. Depending on the situation, that may mean stopping the current flow and preparing the corrected agreement.
Changes made to a reusable template also do not rewrite a contract that was already created or sent from it.
Before sending again
Review the complete updated contract, parties, signees, signing order and email details. Recipients should clearly understand that they are receiving a revised version.
