Change a team member's role
Let an organisation owner update a colleague's workspace role.
Last updated August 26, 2026
Only an organisation owner can change another team member's organisation role. Administrators can manage invitations and member removal, but they cannot promote or demote members.
Review the role first
Use the Member role for colleagues who need to work in the organisation without managing access. Use the Administrator role for colleagues who are responsible for invitations and removing members. Owners remain responsible for role changes.
Changing a role affects organisation access, not the person's place on individual contracts. Existing party and signee assignments remain separate.
Change the role
As an organisation owner:
- Open Settings from the account menu.
- Select Organisation.
- Go to Members.
- Find the team member whose access should change.
- Select the available role action and choose the new role.
- Confirm the change, then check that the new role appears in the member list.
Tell the colleague why their access changed, especially when administrative responsibility is being added or removed.
If you cannot change it
Confirm that you are working in the correct organisation and that your own account is an owner. If you are an administrator or member, ask an owner to make the role change.
Do not remove and reinvite a colleague simply to change their role. That interrupts access without granting you permission to assign a different role. If the owner account is unavailable, contact support with the organisation name, your account email and the member's email. Do not include passwords or active invitation links.
